What is hypnosis?

If you ask 200 experts, you will get 200 answers and all of them will be correct, but you will find that there are many contradictions. There will be many ambiguities and “I don’t knows.” One thing they will all agree on is that it exists and although we do not fully understand it we can use it to produce great results in our lives, in the same way no one knows for sure what electricity is either, yet that is no hindrance to its usefulness!

Hypnosis is a highly effective process that expediently assists change for positive behaviour for it is how to access the subconscious mind.
There are many definitions of hypnosis and each expert has his or her own theory, but in all these definitions and theories, there are common threads: -

1. It is an altered state of relaxation and focused concentration induced by suggestion.
2. There is conscious/unconscious functioning.
3. There is heightened suggestibility.

“Hypnosis is a state wherein the subconscious and conscious parts of the mind begin to work on the same concept at the same time without conflict.” Terry Watts

What does it feel like?

There is no such thing as a “hypnotised” feeling…. As you know, each of us experiences everything that happens during the course of their life differently. You are unique and however, you experience it is exactly right for you.

You may however feel, heavier or as if you are floating, tingling, fluttering of your eyes, body temperatures fluctuating ….whatever you feel and experience is right for you…. It’s that simple.

Clients generally experience a pleasant, heightened awareness of sensations; along with your mind drifting off and drifting back into awareness… because you are so relaxed.

At all times you remain in control and perfectly awake. Hypnosis for therapeutic purposes is just about relaxation. You may feel very heavy, relaxed, lethargic or quite light and tingly. It's just a wonderful, deeply pleasant and relaxing experience

It’s a miracle! It works so quickly! I can’t believe it’s that simple!

These are some of the comments we hear, on a daily basis from our clients.

Hypnotherapy Works for Thousands of People Just Like You!

Well, get ready for a wonderful experience. Hypnosis is like a mental massage for your mind. It feels like a wonderful and deep daydream!

How effective are these therapies?

In Volume 7-1 of Psychotherapy, the psychotherapy journal of the American Psychiatric Association, Dr. Alfred A. Barrios reported the following success rates:

  • Hypnotherapy - 93% recovery after 6 sessions, that's about 1 to 2 months
  • Behaviour Therapy - 72% recovery after 22 sessions, that's about 6 months
  • Psychotherapy - 38% recovery after 600 sessions, that's about 11 to 12 months
  • Medical information has indicated that 76% - 85% of our illness can be created by the mind and are referred to as psychosomatic illnesses.

There are three requirements necessary for hypnosis to occur:

1. A minimal level of intelligence
2. Ability to follow simple instructions
3. Willingness to be hypnotised.

Facts about Hypnosis

● You can hear and remember everything we say….
● You can speak back to us when asked to….
● You are not asleep you are always conscious!
● We use the word sleep. That does not mean you go to sleep, it is just a very deep relaxation of the nervous system.
● You are in complete control, 100% at all times!
●You comply only with suggestions that fit your morals and value systems. Of course, people can be persuaded or forced to do things that conflict with their normal values through lies and deceit, but you do not need to be hypnotised for that!
● Hypnosis is an art, science and practice enabling you to access your subconscious mind.
●Contrary to popular beliefs, anyone can be hypnotised

From its earliest days, hypnosis has been used as an amazing tool to facilitate change, healing and self-improvement. Unfortunately, stage hypnosis often creates the false impression that the participants are under the control of the hypnotist. In reality, those on stage want to be part of the show and will follow through, hypnotic suggestion, as part of the game plan.

Hypnosis has been in use for thousands of years. There is a great deal of evidence to support the belief that the Ancient Greeks and Romans - for therapeutic benefit - as far back as about the fourth Century BC were using Hypnosis.

Did you know that 15 minutes of hypnosis is equal to 2 to 3 hours of regular sleep!
